MOLECATCHER
So you have now decided that you wish to earn the title molecatcher, then as well as the knowledge you will need the toys.
Below is a list of some of the toys that may come in helpful, traps need to be used correctly and to assist I have added some items that you may also like to consider.
Most of these items you can probably make yourself, If you have read the book Molecatcher of seen the DVD you may find of these familiar.
To begin with you have to choose which trap you wish to use I have my favorite and these are available commercially, I cannot list any suppliers details here as I do not have that authorization.
What ever items you decide on you will have to have a means of carrying them around. I have designed a canvas bag which I find meets all my needs. It may not be the cheapest mole bag you will buy but it is probably the best.
It
is lined with vinyl so it is easy to clean and can be knelt on on wet ground.
It has an internal pocket for caught moles or other dirty items so you do not
have to rummage in the bottom for. Two front pockets a mole stick quiver and
a knife pocket complete the bag, There are loops to hang mole probes on and
the whole bag is carried over the shoulder.
If you would like to order a bag please contact molecatcher@molecatcher.co.uk for details. These are only made to order and require a couple of weeks for delivery.
PROBES
You will need a mole probe and these can be made from a number of materials.
Aluminum is fine as is a mild steel, the diameter and length are personal details but I have a number of suggestions again drop me a note to discuss your requirement.
TROWEL
Having found that run you have to enter the round, A garden hand trowel is best. These are obtainable from most hardware stores or garden centers. The main thought is buy one that can be kept sharp, So buy a stone whilst your there.
MOLE RUNNER
This is another of my own items, it enables an easy way of smoothing the runs, vital for ensuring a troube free trap site, Made from wood it is a simple cylinder with a handle for ease of use.
KNIFE
Simple- by big, something for the job. A good handle as it will be used in wet and cold conditions. The blade will be required to cut roots so keep it sharp.
